NOVELIC’s Award-Winning ACAM In-Cabin Monitoring Solution Developed Using HighTec Development Platform

Saarbruecken, Germany, April 16, 2026 – HighTec EDV-Systeme GmbH, the world’s leading independent provider of commercial open-source compiler technologies for embedded systems, today announced that NOVELIC’s Automotive Cabin Advanced Monitoring (ACAM) solution – an award-winning in-cabin radar monitoring system – was developed using the HighTec Development Platform.
NOVELIC’s ACAM solution is a cutting-edge automotive radar technology designed to monitor the vehicle cabin and detect the presence and movement of occupants, including children. The system enables reliable in-cabin sensing capabilities that help automotive manufacturers meet emerging safety standards such as Euro NCAP’s Child Presence Detection (CPD) protocols, which aim to prevent tragic incidents involving children left unattended in vehicles.
Euro NCAP’s 2026 safety protocol makes Child Presence Detection (CPD) mandatory for vehicles seeking top safety ratings. The protocol requires the use of direct sensing technologies such as radar or cameras to detect the presence of children up to six years old within 15 seconds after the vehicle is locked. If a child is detected, the system must trigger exterior alerts such as horn or light activation within 15 seconds, followed by escalating warnings, including smartphone notifications or haptic feedback, if the child remains inside the vehicle.
The ACAM solution from NOVELIC has received industry recognition for its innovative approach to in-cabin sensing, including the In-Cabin Innovation Award, highlighting NOVELIC’s leadership in applying advanced radar technology to automotive safety applications. ACAM provides industry-leading CPD performance in a compact, power-efficient module, while also providing additional functionality, such as seat occupancy detection and intrusion & proximity alerts. During the development of ACAM, NOVELIC utilized the HighTec Development Platform, including HighTec’s automotive-grade C/C++ compiler optimized for the Infineon AURIX™ TC3x microcontroller architecture, to develop and optimize the embedded software powering its radar-based monitoring capabilities. The AURIX TC3x family is widely used in automotive safety-critical systems and provides the performance, reliability, and functional safety capabilities required for advanced sensing applications.
The collaboration between NOVELIC and HighTec also enabled faster development cycles and reduced time-to-market. HighTec’s experienced technical support team worked closely with NOVELIC engineers throughout the development process, helping resolve technical challenges efficiently and ensuring that development milestones could be achieved on schedule.
HighTec’s multi-architecture compiler support provides developers with the flexibility to support multiple processor platforms and future hardware generations, allowing companies like NOVELIC to maintain long-term platform flexibility as automotive electronic architectures continue to evolve. Because HighTec compilers are based on widely adopted open-source technologies, development teams benefit from a shorter learning curve and reduced vendor lock-in, enabling engineers familiar with open-source toolchains to become productive quickly and integrate the tools easily into existing development environments. In addition, HighTec provides native support for modern C++ standards, giving engineering teams the ability to leverage the latest language features while building scalable and maintainable software architectures for future vehicle platforms. For demanding applications such as in-cabin radar monitoring where systems must process complex signals and detect extremely small movements, such as the breathing of a sleeping infant in real time under strict power and performance constraints. HighTec’s compilers provide the optimized code generation required for high-performance embedded software. Furthermore, HighTec compilers are certified according to the ISO 26262 functional safety standard up to ASIL-D, the highest automotive safety integrity level, giving NOVELIC confidence that the generated code is trusted, and providing their platforms with a solid foundation and a clear path toward potential future safety certification.
Dr.Raffaele Soloperto, VP for Radar Solutions at NOVELIC said: “The development of ACAM required a robust and reliable software development environment capable of supporting advanced radar signal processing while meeting automotive reliability standards. HighTec’s Development Platform enabled our engineering team to efficiently build and optimize the software powering our ACAM solution.”
HighTec’s compiler technology is widely recognized across the automotive ecosystem for delivering optimized code generation and stable development tools for leading microcontroller architectures used in safety-critical applications. The company works closely with major semiconductor manufacturers to ensure early tool support for new silicon platforms and automotive processors.
“NOVELIC’s ACAM solution demonstrates how advanced sensing technologies are transforming vehicle safety systems,” said Mario Cupelli, CTO at HighTec. “We are proud that the HighTec Development Platform supported the software development behind this award-winning radar-based in-cabin monitoring solution and contributed to enabling safer vehicles for the future.”
Automotive manufacturers are increasingly integrating advanced in-cabin sensing technologies to support new safety and convenience features. In addition to child presence detection, in-cabin monitoring systems can enable features such as occupant classification, seat-belt reminders, driver monitoring, and personalized vehicle settings.
As vehicle safety standards evolve and regulatory requirements expand, solutions like NOVELIC’s ACAM are expected to play an increasingly important role in helping automotive manufacturers meet both safety and consumer expectations.
